HVPD, now Monitra, asked us to create a brand animation that explained what they do. They protect high voltage assets by detecting partial discharge, the early electrical fault that leads to unplanned outages if it goes unnoticed. The problem is that partial discharge is invisible and their equipment often sits inside live substations and plant that's hard to film. They needed a film that made the technology, and the risk it manages, clear to customers across their website and marketing.

The challenge
They had only a limited amount of real footage of their products working in the field, because much of the work happens inside high voltage environments you can't easily get a camera into. On top of that, the core idea, partial discharge, is invisible and abstract. The job was to explain a fault you can't see, show equipment that's rarely on camera, and make the value of catching it early land with people who aren't electrical engineers.

We used 3D animation to fill the gaps in the footage and to show what a camera never could. The animation reveals partial discharge happening inside high voltage insulation, then shows how HVPD's monitoring picks it up before it turns into a failure. Combining the real footage they did have with matched CGI gave a consistent look across the whole film and let the story move from the fault to the fix in a clear line. The result gives HVPD a single piece that explains an invisible problem and makes the case for their technology without needing a specialist to talk it through.
